Create an Art Quilt using my Mosaic Technique

  • Course
  • 20 Lessons

In this fun and easy class, you will be creating an art quilt using my mosaic technique.

You will receive two pattern PDF's with the purchase of the course:  “Autumn at the Lake” and “Tranquil Morning”.

These are beginner/intermediate art quilt patterns for my published art quilts that appeared in Art Quilting Studio Magazine by Stampington in the Summer of 2019.

Kits are available in my Etsy shop, or you can use supplies and fabrics from your stash.  The finished piece will be an 8 by 10-inch piece of artwork that can be mounted onto an 11 by 14 -inch mat board ready for framing!

What's Included?

  • 17 Comprehensive Lessons that take you through step-by-step where you can create with me using the Tranquil Morning pattern as an example (the steps are the same for Autumn at the Lake)
  • The ability to pause, rewind, speed up, slow down, and watch over and over again...
  • PDF Quilt Patterns you can download to save or print: "Autumn at the Lake" and "Tranquil Morning" (for personal use only)
  • Forever access to ALL course material*
  • My support via direct message or email.
*As long as my course is on this platform.  I have no plans to move!

Testimonials

Here's what people have said about this and my other courses:

Chilliwack, BC Quilt Guild Member

“I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the project was completed… I just love the end product. Your introduction to this new art form,(for me) was an eye-opener. I will use this method again.”

Abbotsford, BC Quilt Guild Member

“Love your personality. Fun, relaxed, friendly, attention to detail, and willing to answer all questions and concerns.”

Chilliwack, BC Quilt Guild Member

“Enjoyed it very much. The fact that I could see what you were working on close up was a big bonus for me. I don’t think I would have learned as much in a classroom setting."

Ginny S.

Your patterns are well written and easy to follow and this has been such a playful time moving from traditional quilting and a confirmation that all those scraps I've been saving will be put to use.  I'm already planning a set of photo art scapes for my family.  Thanks so much!

Design your own mosaic art quilt once you learn my technique

Once you see how fun and easy this technique is, you will have the confidence to create your own design. Here are some examples of what I have created!

Orange Poppies in the Park

For this quilt, I just used longer, more narrow strips for the background, then fused the flowers on afterward.

Geese at Sunset

This one has rectangular pieces in the background, with an applique of the sun and geese flying South. Pattern now available in my Etsy Shop!

Hopewell Rocks, New Brunswick

This artwork uses the same technique in the sky and beach.  I made the ocean with one fabric,  then I used appliques to create the flower pots. The trees were created with a confetti technique. Patterns and kits available in my shop!

Ice Fishing Shacks

This was made with the same technique, except the trees are one piece of fabric, and added the ice fishing shacks last. Pattern and kit is available in my Etsy shop!

Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.

When is the course open?

October 31, 2022 if not before!

How long will I have access?

There is no end date. You have access to this course for at least a year, but probably much longer.

I have no plan to move from this platform, but I wouldn't before the year is up so that you can have it for a full year.

How much experience do I need in free motion quilting?

It would be beneficial for you to have tried it before, but if you haven't, there are many youtube videos online to get you started.  I do have a short video on my youtube channel, but more in-depth ones are easily accessible.

I have a basic sewing machine, so will I still be able to do the course?

Yes.  All that you need is a free motion/darning foot attachment, and you can get universal ones at your local quilt shop or online if your machine did not come with one (check your manual first)!

How long will it take to complete the course?

Most of my students have completed this course in one day, but since you are taking this at your own pace, take as much time as you need!

You have unlimited access, so complete it on your schedule.

What supplies and equipment will I need?

I do have kits available in my Etsy shop if you would like to have the fabrics and materials picked out for you, but you can also use your own supplies.

You will need:
  • A sewing machine in good working order, with a 90/14 Schmetz needle, or whatever you like to use on your sewing machine
  • A free motion quilting or darning foot
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Cutting mat and rotary cutter
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Fabric scraps (preferably mostly 100% quilting cotton)
  • A variety of threads to match your fabrics
  • Fine permanent fabric marker
  • Glue stick
  • Free motion quilting gloves (optional)
  • Thin batting (I use Heirloom 80/20, but any thin batting will work)
  • Steam-a-seam 2 Lite Fusible web (it is important to use this brand because it is sticky, but you can reposition fabric pieces before ironing them and gluing them on)
  • Beads (optional) or other treasures to put on the land to look like flowers or rocks/shells
  • Mat board - 11 by 14-inch white mat board (I buy sheets at Michaels and cut them to size. I can also send one to you if you would like to purchase one from me).
  • Coordinating 11 by 14-inch picture frame

What do I do if I need help or extra guidance?

Please reach out to me if you have any questions or need clarification on anything.  I am on Instagram and Facebook, or you can email me at darcyhunterart@yahoo.com

You could also comment (and even upload a photo) if you are having trouble. Others may have the same questions!

What if I am unhappy with my purchase?

Unfortunately, I am unable to give refunds, since you have full access as soon as you sign up.

But if you have big concerns, please email me.

Will you be releasing other courses in the future?

Yes, I have lots of ideas swirling around in my brain!  If you have suggestions, please let me know.
